Reducing Stigma Around Discussing Suicide & Self-Harm

DETAILS
Overview

Self-harming behavior and suicide are difficult topics for parents. In this presentation, we’ll discuss possible signs that your teen may be self-harming or having thoughts of suicide. You’ll learn the questions to ask, the red flags to watch out for, and practical tips to begin a dialogue around these issues. We will also discuss several Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills that can be helpful in approaching this sensitive issue with your teenager.

For more information about DBT, please read Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and “A Parent’s Guide to Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)“. To learn about DBT programs for teens, visit our page here. More resources for parents can also be found here.
